David Bisbal “Latin Heart” album cover

LOS ANGELES - David Bisbal received Best New Artist Award for his album titled “Latin Heart” at the “2003 Latin Grammy Awards” in Miami which aired on CBS Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003.

The 24-year-old singer from the city of Almeria, Spain, began his music career at the age of 18-years-old singing in the Spanish Group “Expressions”. Bisbal’s success in the music industry began after becoming one of three finalists on the first edition of the Spanish reality show “Operation Triumph”, the Spanish version of “American Idol”. After participating in “Operation Triumph”, Bisbal signed with the record company Vale Music to record his first album titled “Latin Heart”.

The album, produced by Kike Santander, was recorded in Miami and was released Oct. 15, 2002. The songs “Ave Maria”, “I Will Cry Away the Pain” and “Latin Heart” rapidly climbed the music charts. In just a short period of time “Latin Heart” became one of the most sold albums in Spanish speaking countries selling more than 1 million copies in only six months of its release.

During the summer of 2002 Bisbal’s success ignited among the masses of the Spanish speaking world converting the new singer into a pop-music icon resulting in the selling out all of his concerts. Everyone from the critics to Bisbal’s crazed fans were extremely impressed with the talented young singer causing his album “Latin Heart” to be considered best album of the year in addition to the many other awards Bisbal received from the music industry. Bisbal’s most recent accomplishment was his earning a nomination for best vocal pop album in the male category and receiving an award for Best New Artist at the “Fourth Annual Latin Grammy Awards”.

The album “Latin Heart” is a delightful mixture of dance songs and passionately written love ballads. Bisbal is an extremely talented singer whose voice reflects his charisma and emotion. If you understand Spanish you can appreciate the beautifully written lyrics of his songs, many of which reflect a deep and profound meaning of love. The rest of the songs on the album are excitingly upbeat and fantastic to dance to.

Elizabeth Adle, a student at California State University, Long Beach who participated in a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain during 2002-2003 school years said, “It’s very exciting to see how much success he has gained in such a short period of time. Just one year ago I bought his CD because he was so adored by everyone all over Spain. Now, only a year later, he’s appearing on television in the United States and is known all over the world. I feel as though I should be proud that I was a fan of his from the very beginning.”

The album contains a duet titled “I Return to You” with Bisbal’s girlfriend, Chenoa, who competed alongside Bisbal in the show “Operation Triumph”. The couple sang another duet “From the Bottom of the Soul” on Chenoa’s album which is also an amazing song.

One of the advantages of buying the American version of Bisbal’s CD is that it comes with a DVD which includes footage from the popular show “Operation Triumph”, the video of “Ave Maria” and a live performance of “Latin Heart” as well as interviews and pictures. It’s an excellent way to fall in love with the captivating and charming young singer.
